Back by popular demand (and by popular I mean at least 3 people asked me about it!)- we're going to have another Fullerton Ultimate Thanksgiving-Leftovers Huckfest Hat Tourney --
the Date is set for November 27, 2011 (the sunday after thanksgiving)
Check -in time will start @ 10 am -- first pull will be as soon as we get (4) teams filled out (10:30/10:45 hopefully)
BRING MULTIPLE SHIRTS (LIGHTS AND DARKS) FOR TEAM PLAY!! VERY HELPFUL ON A DAY LIKE THIS!!
This time around I'm going to ask everyone to check-in with me and I'll put names in (4) different hats based on rank. Once we have enough numbers, the selected captains will randomly draw their teams out of the (4) hats and that will set each team. We will continue to add in late additions based on each teams "total points", trying to keep things even.
We've got two fields, we'll have (4) teams -- we'll play a (3) game round robin where each team will square off, games to 9, half at 5 -- then we'll have a taco break and finish off with a two game single elimination tourney (games to 13) to decide the ultimate champion, and somebody will go home with the "Turkey" for being their team MVP. <I'm also hoping to get "lines" painted or chalked for the tourney - if so there will be a 'huck' line around 3/4 field that will be worth (2) points for scores thrown behind that line!>
The tourney is free, the tacos are not. Jorge is going to arrange for tacos to be made on-site, bring 10$ for tacos.
[According to Jorge, he will not make it, so the taco truck is out. We can go get Del Taco or maybe pizza if people are interested. If somebody wants to take charge of this, that would be great.]
Also new this year, a serious after-party, Nadine has already said she will host the after-party -- Nadine, please confirm and send EVERYONE your address immediately!!! hahahahaha
Tell a friend, bring a neighbor and lets run off those thanksgiving pounds! Keep an eye out for future posts and follow up instructions.

Now I know that people (Ryan) may claim that he was not a receiver, but a defender. But the section heading is just a section heading.
The rule says "a player" and is therefore general. There are other rules in the document that clearly state "the defender..." or "the thrower..."
so it is my belief this rule applies to ALL players. But, like everything, I am sure there are many other opinions. :)

We always seem to have questions about whether an uncontested foul in the end zone goes to the goal line or not. It used to go to the goal line.
It does not anymore, but it is NOT a score unless it was caught too. See below taken from UPA website.

Q: Is an uncontested foul in the end zone by a defensive player a score, or does the disc come out to the goal line?
A: Basically, it depends on what kind of foul it is, that is, whether the foul occurred before or after the receiver got control of the disc.
If the defender fouls the receiver while the disc is in the air (or before possession is gained), thereby preventing the receiver from being able to catch the disc, this is considered a "receiving foul" (XVI.H.3.b), and if it's uncontested, the receiver gets the disc at the spot of the infraction (XVI.H.3.b.2; which in this case, is in the endzone). However, it is not a goal: the defender checks the disc into play right there in the middle of the endzone (X.C), at which point the disc is now "live" (II.R.2), all players are free to move about, and the receiver has to walk the disc out to the goal line, touch it to the ground (XIII.B), and play the disc from there (X.B).
If, on the other hand, the defender fouls the receiver after the receiver had already gained possession of the disc, thereby causing the receiver to lose possession of the disc, this is considered a "general" foul, and XI.A.2 applies. In this case, the result is that a goal is awarded. Note also that a "strip" (XVI.H.3.d) is considered a general foul, and therefore an uncontested strip in the endzone is also a goal.=================================
So now we just have to all try and remember this when we play. Check the disk in the endzone and then walk it out and recheck it and then play.

Gang,Nate Hatch pointed out that the rules (11th edition) actually do still have one situation where the disc goes back to the goal line with an uncontested foul. It is described in the rules under XB and XC below. So, I believe I have been playing this wrong and have convinced most to play that wrong way. The key is that if you are fouled in the end zone while attempting to catch the disc, then even if the foul is uncontested, you did not catch the disc so there can be no score. So you actually check the disc with the defender at the foul location in the end zone and then walk it to the goal line and check it again (can be a self-check). Here is a link to a FAQ on it.http://www.usaultimate.org/faq/default.aspx#83 My only problem with this is that it seems to encourage defenders to foul somebody in the end zone since it robs them of the score at that moment and forces more throws and catches to actually score. Also note this is not the case for a STRIP as the receiver actually has caught the disc and therefore it is a score. =================================================================
X. End Zone Possession
A. If a turnover results in a team gaining possession in the end zone that they are defending, the player in
possession must immediately either:
1. put the disc into play at the spot of the disc (to fake a throw or pause after gaining possession commits
the player to put the disc into play at that spot); or
2. Carry the disc directly to the closest point on the goal line and put it into play at that spot. If this option is
chosen, the player taking possession must put the disc into play at the goal line. Failure to do so is a
travel.
B. If a team gains or retains possession in the end zone that they are attacking other than by scoring a goal in
accordance with rule XI, the player in possession must carry the disc directly to, and put it into play at, the
spot on the goal line closest to where possession was gained.
