I might get stoned for suggesting, but thought i'd try to see if at least 14 people are in.
Since we have some great football games tomorrow starting at 12, I'm suggesting a 9am or 10am start tomorrow.
I know this would mean Joe would have to miss church, hopefully you've been good this week.
Who's in?

AlexTo: lanaisthehbomb@hotmail.comFrom: fupu@littleyell.comSubject: abridge1 yelled "End zone rule (again)"Date: Mon, 20 Jun 2011 19:03:21 +0000Rick,I think I see a bit of inconsistency both on the interpretation and in the rules.a) the receiver gets the disc at the spot of the infraction (in the end zone)b) the disc is now "live"c) the receiver has to walk the disc to the goal line and touch it to the ground, then throw from there....so, it looks like the disc does go to the goal line, but it also looks like a travel (since the disc is "live")... unless it's caught and uncontested in which case it's a score. It seems superfluous to me to call the disc "live" in the endzone and then walk it back to the goal line, other than everyone else who can be running around...

Hi all,
This is a rules clarification that we have probably
had before, but for us old folks, we forget and hence it is new again! :)
We always seem to have questions about whether an uncontested foul in the end zone goes to the goal line or not. It used to go to the goal line.
It does not anymore, but it is NOT a score unless it was caught too. See below taken from UPA website.
=================================
Q: Is an uncontested foul in the end zone by a defensive player a score, or does the disc come out to the goal line?
A: Basically, it depends on what kind of foul it is, that is, whether the foul occurred before or after the receiver got control of the disc.
If the defender fouls the receiver while the disc is in the air (or before possession is gained), thereby preventing the receiver from being able to catch the disc, this is considered a "receiving foul" (XVI.H.3.b), and if it's uncontested, the receiver gets the disc at the spot of the infraction (XVI.H.3.b.2; which in this case, is in the endzone). However, it is not a goal: the defender checks the disc into play right there in the middle of the endzone (X.C), at which point the disc is now "live" (II.R.2), all players are free to move about, and the receiver has to walk the disc out to the goal line, touch it to the ground (XIII.B), and play the disc from there (X.B).
If, on the other hand, the defender fouls the receiver after the receiver had already gained possession of the disc, thereby causing the receiver to lose possession of the disc, this is considered a "general" foul, and XI.A.2 applies. In this case, the result is that a goal is awarded. Note also that a "strip" (XVI.H.3.d) is considered a general foul, and therefore
an uncontested strip in the endzone is also a goal.=================================
So now we just have to all try and remember this when we play. Check the disk in the endzone and then walk it out and recheck it and then play.

Good to see, another rule was called into question yesterday, "can one throw the disc from the ground?"Traveling: The thrower must establish a pivot at the appropriate spot on the field and keep all or part of the pivot in contact with that spot until the throw is released. Failure to do so is a travel and results in a stoppage of play and a check
.
If a non-standing player loses contact with the pivot spot in order to stand up, it is not a travel, provided the new pivot is established at the same location.Pivot: The particular part of the body
in continuous contact with a single spot on the field during a
thrower's possession once the thrower has come to a stop or has
attempted a throw or fake. When there is a definitive spot for putting
the disc into play, the part of the body in contact with that spot is
the pivot.

FU Gang: This is the final email about the LA Live Earth Day Event. This is going to be an awesome event with thousands of people coming out to hang out, eat, drink, and participate in various events including watching us play some disc. I've been working out some of the details with all of the involved parties over email and phone the last few days. Rocket Sauce is bringing a large group and there will be a bunch of folks from LA that will show up. From 12p to 2:30pm (give or take), the adults that show up will be divided into two large teams and play an exhibition game. The focus is on showing how great the game of Ultimate can be. The focus is on Spirit of the Game and not on winning (we may not keep score). Keep
it fun. The field is VERY small so we'll play either 4 on 4 or 5 on 5 with lots of subbing. From 2:30pm to 5pm the Youth Ultimate organization will play a game for the kids and then run clinics that the crowd can join in. They are hoping some of our players will stay and help out in the kids games and clinics. I encourage you to do this. It will be great for the sport and lots of fun. If you need or want to leave after the adult game, that's Ok too. Please bring a Green and a White shirt. Meet at Gus Grissom (our fields) at 10:45 Friday (4/22) to carpool. Don't be late, please. I can take up to 8 in my car depending on how much gear we have. If you are not carpooling and need a parking permit, please send me an email. This should be great fun. Come and join us tomorrow. Best, Scott

I want to correct two errors below. First, my last name has no
's'. It's Daniel. Second, I didn't throw three away, it was four. I have no
idea where my head was at. Probably the Bahamas. Sorry. My bad.
We actually had the lead at the half and played pretty well
considering. Kentucky and Rory were great additions to the FU squad. Need more
legs for the next game.
